Make special plans for the International Literature Festival Berlin, the annual highlight of all literary events in Berlin. Three important traditional literature houses in Mitte, Charlottenburg and at Wannsee are at the forefront with their extensive programmes of events, but book presentations and reading courses, symposia and workshops also take place on Berlin's stages, in cafés and cultural venues. No wonder the city offers countless events where literature is presented, discussed and critically examined against socio-political backgrounds - right across all districts of Berlin. The implications of these factors indicate a need for beginning teachers to better understand and acclimatize to the demands of becoming a teacher before attempting to resume high levels of artistic output.Berlin has always been a beacon and setting for literary creation beyond all borders: From the salons of Rahel Varnhagen to Fontane, Döblin, Brecht, Anna Seghers and contemporary literary figures, the long list of important writers goes on. From these storied insights, the factors that emerged as critical to becoming are the beginning teachers' perceptions and management of time, and their capacity to appropriately prioritize art and teaching practices over each other.

In exploring the storied experiences of three artists and teachers, a discussion unfolds to examine the ways that artist and teaching practices interact, and the implications this interaction has upon the beginning teachers' transition into professional practice.
